May is Osteoporosis Awareness month
Osteoporosis is a silent destroyer of bones, strength, stability and peace.
You’ll have no specific warning. . . then suddenly. . . POW! OUCH! you have a fracture in your spine (or your wrist, or hip or ankle)! Whaaaaat. . .who me????
YOU need to know your risk for Osteoporosis.
Have your bone density checked (it’s painless!). Know your family history (you can run from genetics but you cannot hide from them!). How’s your diet (really)? Exercise routine? Stress levels? Other health conditions? Supplementation? Water supply? Your nutritional history??
I have a HIGH risk for Osteoporosis and yes, I have rapidly advancing Osteoporosis although technically, I’ve done everything right since we discovered my osteopenia in 2011. BUT my history of eating disorders and denial of my probabilities added to my risk factors and blammo – here I am with swiss cheesy bones, multiple spinal fractures, chronic pain and a whole lotta wondering what the future holds. hmmm.
Pharmaceutical osteoporosis “medications” are simply not an option for me. My research tells me that the RISKS FAR OUTWEIGH the benefits. One great source of unbiased and reliable information is the Save Our Bones site. Go there. . .right now. . .get info. . .right now!!
If you or someone you know is at risk for OSTEOPOROSIS, you owe it to yourself to be informed and make necessary and positive changes NOW. Take it from me – wishing you had heeded this advice is not the same as doing it!
Another option that I am considering is stem cell therapy. It’s still in some testing phases but it looks very promising.
In the meantime, I’m careful and doing everything that is suggested other than drugs. Unfortunately my osteo is compounding the scoliosis but that’s another story for another day!
Carpe Diem (and find out YOUR risk for osteoporosis. . .and. . . spread the word – really) !!
